Life advice from a student apartment blog: you wouldn’t expect it, and yet, here it is. Throughout our blog, we’ve touched on many great topics including college myths, settling roommate disputes, and even summertime pool etiquette. We’ve also touched on academic stress and keeping things in perspective as the semester gets more intense.

You might find yourself asking, “Why does Kent’s Best Apartments care so much about our college experience?”. The truth is, we’re the premier student apartments in Kent, and first and foremost, it’s our responsibility to safely and comfortably house the world’s future doctors, musicians, lawyers, journalists, engineers, research scientists, artists, and other important professions. You’re studying at Kent State University to further your career and make a difference in this world, and we’re here to help you support your endeavors.

We’d like to continue our blog with a few more pieces of general advice for freshmen all the way to grad students. Keep reading below to learn more!

A Few More Pieces of Life Advice For KSU Students

Appreciate the Moment Before It’s Gone

In the stress of finals season, the frustration of coordinating a group project, or failing to find what you need at the library, it’s easy to throw your appreciation for the present moment out the window and instead feel…well, stressed, frustrated, or like a failure. In fact, reacting to difficult situations this way is only natural.

Though life will always throw you your fair share of challenges, it’s really important to hold onto the good moments and let the bad stuff slip away — at least, to a healthy extent. Remember, you may never know what you had until it’s gone. Wisdom.

Cherish the People In Your Life

People will come and go in your life. It’s sad but true; you’ll work, study, and get to know countless people in a wide variety of contexts throughout your entire life. If life is a series of chapters, it’s important to remember the characters that stood out to you the most. Make sure that you value positive interactions, and do your best to learn from negative interactions without harboring disdain for someone.

Let us say that you may never know who you’ve had in your life until they’re gone. Boom, more wisdom.

Good Impressions Count

A firm handshake, eye contact, and a warm smile on the face will take you very, very far in your personal and professional life. Really — impressions are incredibly important and you have but a mere snapshot to solidify what someone thinks about you. Sure, there’s always plenty of time for someone to get to know you (and, consequently, change their views about you), but a warm, friendly greeting with a genuine interest in meeting someone will be valued in just about every introduction you’ll ever have.

Even when it comes time to say goodbye as you’re moving onto another job, another class, or whatever life throws your way, that final impression is immensely important to solidify someone’s memory of you. Of course, goodbyes don’t have to be “goodbyes.” Any goodbye to anyone in your life can always be a “see you later” if you make it happen and the stars align.
